“What’s in a Seed”

Every morning we wake up we are faced with the choice of how we will live into our day. It’s a “Tomb” or Womb” choice. Will we be creative, curious, and courageous, birthing joy and kindness in ourselves and then out to others? Or will we focus on yesterday, things regret, things we cannot change but worry about as if we can? Will we let go of the invisible but very heavy rocks we carry? Or we will continue to lug them around because we believe they give us energy?

We cannot change the health of our entire earth, but we can change the way we treat the ground beneath our feet, and that matters. It matters because history has recorded the power of one. You and I have power! It’s true. We have the power, the energy of the essence of the Holy who holds the universe as she shoots stars, creates new ones, and continually expands her cosmic love and presence further than any telescope or mind can measure or comprehend.

Imagine that we are all individually seeds, planted here, right now, in this moment. One planted apple seed becomes an apple tree, birthing barrels of apples, thousands of seeds. And we know what happens next. We pick them, purchase them, and are gifted with them to make pies, jellies, cobblers, crumb cakes, apple puff pancakes, cider, simmered into a porkchop sauce…ooh ooh applesauce, juice, apple crisp, candied and caramel apples, and we can slice them or bite them. This is not an exhaustive list of how apples can nourish us or make us smile as we enjoy their flavor and nourishment.

One seed. One sweet or tart seed changes the ground where it is planted. One seed, watered and nourished by the sun, by the hands and heart caring for it and protecting it from whatever threatens to deny it’s becoming more than what it is in the present moment.

I’m not going to write about how we came to be humans. The birds and the bees have that all locked up. Let’s just say when a seed was planted and nourished for nine months or so, our human journey began. And everyone we have touched with our being has been affected by our “tomb or Womb” energy. Every morning, we are free to decide if our energy will nourish ourselves and others. Each moment we live we are invited to be a loving, kind, and fun part of humanity’s orchard right where we are. So, as you read this, ask yourself if you are connected to the branches of the gifts, the attributes of the Spirit, because that’s where the power, the life, the energy to be love exists. And as you consider your connection to the outrageous love of the Cosmos, remember, it only takes one bad, disconnected apple to turn a barrel of apples into a sour tomb.

And while you’re at it, it’s more than okay to begin singing, “Johnny Appleseed”, cuz that tune will stick with you all day, and being reminded to stay connected to the Tree of Life is a sweet experience. It is amazing how a single seed contains thousands of new worlds.

There are no small moments.
